North Carolina What Are Workplace Injuries Management Has More Influence on Number of Workplace Injuries Study Says

March 31st, 2012

Workers can often be blamed for their injuries on the job. Employers may assume that they have been careless or haven’t followed safety protocols. Yet, according to a new study by the University of Georgia, it turns out that upper-level management may have much more influence on workplace safety and the rate of workplace accidents.

The study – published this month in the Journal of Safety Research – found that when management fostered the perception of a positive safety climate among employees, the number of workplace injuries went down 32 percent. Day-to-day practices were more influential than written safety protocols. See: North Carolina Workers Compensation Attorney

When employees felt that a company ran smoothly and that there were minimal constraints on their performance, the injury rate dropped as much as 38 percent, the study found.

“Injury is a failure of management,” said study co-author Dave DeJoy, a professor of health promotion and behavior at UGA. “Organizations who blame individuals for injuries do not create a positive safety climate.”

Law Wire News Older riders account for many motorcycle accidents fatalities

March 29th, 2012

Over the last few years, an interesting trend among motorcycle riders has developed :
Riders are getting older and more affluent.

There’s a good chance that the motorcyclist you see approaching you as you steer your car is likely to have gray hair and a top-of-the-line bike. The image of the mature, well-heeled rider flies in the face of the misconception many folks have about riders as young, speed demons. See: File Motorcycle Accident Lawsuit Massachusetts

A recent study by the consumer research firm Scarborough, which examines the spending habits of the aging Baby Boomer generation, finds that 7 percent of boomers live in a household with a motorcycle. At the same time, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reports that 54 percent of motorcyclists killed in crashes in 2009 were age 40 or older. Ten year earlier, that age group accounted for 41 percent of the fatal motorcycle accidents.

Focusing on a younger group of riders, in 2009 riders under 30 years old accounted for 27 percent of all motorcycle accident fatalities in the United States, according to the NHTSA data. In 2000, 35 percent of the total motorcyclists killed in crashes were under 30.

If you or a loved one is in a motorcycle accident, you will need a personal injury lawyer to protect your rights. As motorcycle accident attorneys in Boston, the lawyers at the Law Offices of Mark E. Salomone understand how devastating serious injuries can be..

Study : Women face greater risk of car accident injury Mickey Fine Law

March 29th, 2012

A new study finds that women are more likely than men to be injured in a car accident. According to the report, females face a greater risk of car accident injury possibly because cars lack safety features tailored to women.

The study, published in the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH), relied on national traffic accident statistics from 1998 to 2008. Women are not necessarily in more auto accidents, but the design of safety devices like seatbelts and airbags may provide greater protection for men due to their larger size and their preferred seating position, according to the results. The report found that female drivers wearing seatbelts were more likely to be injured and sustained more chest and spin injuries than men wearing seatbelts in similar crashes. Car accidents happen every day. If you or a loved one is injured in a car accident in Los Angeles, or elsewhere in California, you may sustain deep losses. Don’t hesitate to speak with an experienced car accident attorney in Los Angeles to learn about your rights. Contact the Law Offices of Mickey Fine. See Rear Ended Los Angeles

According to the study, women face “a higher risk of lower extreme injuries . as a result of their relatively smaller stature, preferred seating posture and a combination of these factors.” Women drivers using a seatbelt were 47 percent more likely to be injured than a belted male driver in a comparable crash.

While the study is pretty scary for women, the best thing you can do is to pick a car best suited for you. Some cars are a better fit for smaller drivers. Also, sit a safe distance from the air bag, which can cause harm to drivers who are not at least 10 inches away from point where it deploys. Make sure the seatbelt fits comfortably and securely. Make any adjustments if necessary.
Remember, if you are in an accident and sustain injuries, it’s a good idea to speak with a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer. You can be injured in a car accident in an instant, but the effects can last a lifetime. Contact the Law Offices of Mickey Fine to see how we can help.

About The Law Study finds 7 percent of baby boomers live in home with a motorcycle

March 29th, 2012

Even during tough economic times, some people continue to take pleasure in life’s adventures. For many folks in Massachusetts, this means taking to the open road on a motorcycle.

A new study by the consumer research firm Scarborough, which examines the spending habits of the baby boomer generation, finds that 7 percent of boomers live in a household with a motorcycle.

With many baby boomers now reaching retirement age and having more leisure time on their hands, drivers may notice older motorcycle riders on the roads in the Bay State. Unfortunately, this also means there will be more accidents involving motorcycles. The motorcycle accident lawyers in Greenfield at the Law Offices of Mark E. Salomone have seen first-hand how a serious injury can lead to significant financial losses.

Our Springfield motorcycle accident lawyers also have seen how an injury victim can be treated unfairly. Some people who have never been on a motorcycle might assume that all riders are careless and reckless. They might assume the average motorcycle rider is a young daredevil who commonly speeds down a highway.

The Scarborough study suggests otherwise. Researchers define baby boomers as people who are between 45 and 64 years old. With 7 percent of them living in a household with a motorcycle, clearly many riders are not young speed demons.

When It Comes To Lawyer Websites Microsites Less Is More-A Lot More

March 23rd, 2012

We touched on microsites in our Managed Sites post and sparked a flurry of questions. Attorneys are understandably confused because there’s an entire industry devoted to selling keyword-rich URL’s to law firms-along with the idea that adding more and more content is the goal. But that’s basically b.s., so buck up and prepare to let go of everything you’ve been told about microsites up to now. See: law firm marketing

Most attorneys don’t ask whether they should have them but how many. Microsites are like the technological chia pets of our time: Everyone thinks they need at least one, if not a flock and why not, they’re fun to propagate, a great conversation starter and fundamentally pragmatic, right?

Wrong. If you have multiple microsites, you’re compromising your main site’s potential by siphoning off the potency of external links
